Sitting in the living room watching TV while my computer polled phone #’s looking for other computers to connect to. I don’t know how long this went on but I would sit there & listen to the people who answered the phones talking inside my computer. “Hello, hello” would come from my modem speaker, then click & another dial. I don’t remember ever crashing any systems, but I did get access to many systems and procure some of their files. I really don’t know why I did that, I guess just to have something to do. I never bragged about it to any other crackers, never profited from any of the programs I downloaded, I never did anything malicious at all. I just ganked their programs, messages, personal files & pictures; things of this nature. I stored them on my drive until I needed space & deleted them. I had a hacker alias, but it wasn’t anything cool like Ice Cracker Mo D-Luscious or anything. No I was Larry Maxwell; don’t know where I came up with that. I know some of the sysop’s knew I was in there systems because a lot of sites killed my front door access or banned my new sign ups from ever going through. Now I can’t even remember how to do the most basic of computer things let alone write an auto dialer script. I feel I have lost it all.

Programming our HERO-1 robot, in our electronics class, to go over to the office & ask the ladies who worked there for things. We also taught him to cuss. We had a lot of fun with that little guy, but had too much trouble with his arm actuators & eventually removed the arm. He also had a battery issue & always seemed to be on the charger. Programming Hero was very challenging, indeed. His programming was all done in hexadecimal, one byte at a time on the keypad. There was no screen, just LED readout to see the line & code you were inputting. Getting him to speak phonetically too a LOT of work & patience. Even with his problems I loved the little guy. I designed many robots after playing with Hero & as usual never built one. I played around with components & servo controls mechanics, did some programming, speech synthesis & made some software/hardware control driver circuits. I even remember trying to work out Alpha class intelligence, but never put anything together or completed a project, as usual.

Dad had an army buddy named Eli. He had a little garage in Collinsville & we would go there often to hang out with other car people. Eli always had a crock pot with chili cooking on his counter & dad loved it. I don’t remember what it tasted like, but everyone went there to hang out & eat chili. I’m not sure if he made a new batch every day or if he just kept adding to the pot that kept cooking forever, but dad sure liked it.
