Movie Review: The Intern (2015) by AI people
The Intern is a rare kind of modern comedy-drama—warm, charming, and refreshingly sincere. Directed by Nancy Meyers, the film brings together two unlikely leads: Robert De Niro as Ben Whittaker, a 70-year-old widower looking for new purpose, and Anne Hathaway as Jules Ostin, a driven, overworked CEO of a booming fashion startup.
What makes The Intern stand out is its universal appeal. This is a movie both men and women can sit down and genuinely enjoy together. The story is heartfelt but never sappy, tackling themes like aging, ambition, and companionship with grace and humor. De Niro steps away from his usual tough-guy persona to deliver a quietly powerful performance as a gentleman whose experience and kindness gradually win over a skeptical office. It’s honestly refreshing to see him in a role that trades bullets for briefcases.
Anne Hathaway brings vulnerability and strength to her role as a young entrepreneur juggling work, motherhood, and marriage. The chemistry between her and De Niro isn’t romantic—it’s rooted in mutual respect and emotional support, which feels surprisingly fresh for Hollywood.
The film avoids big twists or shocking moments, opting instead for a steady emotional build. And it pays off. By the time the credits roll, it leaves you with that rare, satisfying sense that everything landed exactly where it should. It’s feel-good in the best way: not forced, but earned.
Whether you’re watching for the laughs, the life lessons, or just to see De Niro offer wise advice while rocking a three-piece suit, The Intern delivers.
Thank you for stopping by.
