The way I see it you have 2 main problems. First & foremost you got your heart broken, that one hurts. Second, you are bored with the Army. Waaaaa! Let me tell you about it.
The heartbroken thing I know all too well. When your mom & I split up I was devastated. I loved her so much & it hurt so badly when she left. She was my first true love & to see her with someone else was the greatest pain I have ever felt. I was a complete wreck for months. I didn’t do anything but work, pick you up at Moms house & sleep. I became so depressed that I even tried to kill myself. I was at mom’s house & I took a whole bottle of prescription sleeping pills. Luckily Grandpa Aaron cam home & found me. He stuck his finger down my through & made me puke. I still had enough dissolved in my system that I slept for 2 days. I don’t know what happened in those 2 days, if I went to the hospital or what, but I made it through. My point is that I know the pain you are feeling, I know how powerful love can be. I’m glad that Dad found me & that I got my shit together because I found a love WAY better than the love of a woman. I found you. That is a love that will never go away, never find someone else & dump you, never leave you. The love of your child is the best thing in the world. You know I found love 2 more times after Tamara, you will too. I will always love your mom no matter what she does or where she goes, true love never dies. You will carry your love for Dawn with you but you will love again, so be ready for it.
Now the second thing, this one is easy. Right now you have a boring job; yes the Army is your job. In a year or so (when you deploy) your job will be anything but boring. You will have enough excitement in your combat tour to last you the rest of your life. Most regular people get to do the boring job for their entire life. Haven’t you ever heard “Working for the weekend”? Take me for an example I have a boring job; people ask me for a part, I get them the part, repeat. That’s it, in a nutshell. That is the jobs that most people have. Look at all the different training you are getting. Why the hell do you think they are doing all of it? Because your job will soon become anything but boring. Soon you’ll be kicking in doors, shooting enemy mobs, jumping out of planes, rappelling down walls, setting up explosives, searching for ied’s, riding around on the back of Strikers firing high caliber machine guns at terrorists who want nothing more than to kill everyone in sight, dogs & cats living together, mass hysteria! Believe me you will live more in that combat tour that most people would in three lives. If you make it through you will have really accomplished something. You will have done, instead of talked. You will be a better man for it.
Life is going to keep kicking your ass, it always does. Don’t let it get to you, it’s just the way life is. Remember that I ALWAYS love you no matter what. I will be here for you if you need me for anything, don’t be afraid to tell me. Taking care of you is my true job in life, but you have to help me do it.
