Death of a Unicorn 2025 movie review by Reverend Chris

Rating: 4 out of 5.

I really liked this movie, it was a lot of fun. It had the perfect balance of horror, humor, fantasy & campiness that made it very enjoyable. The take on unicorns in this was pretty cool, showing them as beautiful creatures that are not afraid to stomp somebody’s head into the ground. Well worth four stars.

Death of a Unicorn (2025) – 4-Star Review

Death of a Unicorn is one of those rare cinematic gems that manages to blend genres with such a confident and quirky charm that you can’t help but be entertained from start to finish. This movie was an absolute blast—wild, weird, and wonderfully fun.

At its core, it strikes a perfect balance between horror, humor, fantasy, and campiness, creating an experience that’s both unpredictable and surprisingly cohesive. Just when you think you know what direction it’s heading in, it throws in a surreal twist or a perfectly timed joke that keeps the energy high and the audience engaged.

The horror elements are just creepy enough to keep the stakes high, but never so intense that they overshadow the film’s playful spirit. The humor is sharp, often dark, and lands more often than not—especially when paired with the fantasy aspects that feel both absurd and oddly magical. And the camp? Chef’s kiss. It’s self-aware without being smug, leaning into its bizarre premise with gusto rather than apology.

The cast clearly had fun with their roles, and it shows. The performances are just the right amount of over-the-top, matching the tone beautifully. The production design and creature effects (yes, including the titular unicorn) are inventive and memorable, adding to the movie’s offbeat aesthetic.

Death of a Unicorn isn’t trying to be a prestige drama or an arthouse darling—it knows exactly what it is, and it excels at being a riotously entertaining, genre-bending ride. If you’re a fan of films that don’t take themselves too seriously and love a good blend of horror-fantasy chaos with a wink and a nod, this is one you don’t want to miss.

Highly recommended—and I’d happily watch it again.
