Too Many Guns | violence killed 20K+ in 2022

Too many guns. We are a nation obsessed with guns. For the most part people are pretty responsible with them, although the are some idiots in the mix. But when you her terms like “assault rifle”, “semi-automatic” or “long gun” in the media it’s hard to figure out what it all means. I’m going to help.

Too many guns?

The news is constantly screaming about someone being shot by an “assault rifle”, but what exactly is an assault rifle?  basically, an assault rifle is based on the way a weapon looks. Typically, the AR 15 is referenced because it is one of the most popular styles & with good reason. The AR platform is a very well designed & comfortable rifle to shoot. But at its core it is no different than a standard rifle.

The simplest firing style of weapons is manual.

That means after you fire you need to perform an action to load another round like pumping a shotgun or moving a bolt on a rife.

The next (and most common type) is semi-automatic.

This means when you fire the weapon it automatically loads another round for you. You then need to pull the trigger again to fire. Almost every pistol & rifle made is a semi-automatic type. Semi-automatic is a term the media like to scare us with

The final type is full auto.

Full auto means that when you pull the trigger the weapon will keep firing until you release the trigger or run out of ammo.

  • Except in special cases, you cannot own a fully automatic weapon. They are illegal.

Now, if you are a crazy person who wants to kill a lot of people you could do it with a standard rifle, also called a long gun, a pistol or a shotgun. Just like you could with an “assault rifle”.

So, I say to the media, stop trying to scare us with sensationalism & scary words & just tell the news.

And everyone else, quit focusing on the type of guns used in these killings & start looking at the people. They are the ones doing the damage, after all.

So, we have a gun problem in America.

What is the solution? It is definitely NOT more guns. If you want people to stop gun violence, take away people’s guns. At least from the stupid people. I’m Reverend Chris & these are my thoughts on guns.

The debate about gun control is not new.

It has been going on for decades. But it is clear that the solution to this problem does not seem to be coming any time soon. In spite of the recent shooting in Florida, and other shootings in the past, Congress has not been able to come up with a solution that would reinstate stricter gun control laws.

President Biden’s plan included banning bump stocks and raising the minimum age requirement of buying a rifle from 18 to 21 years old, which are both good ideas, but they don’t go far enough. We have too many guns in America, and we need to address that as such.

The solution is NOT more guns (we have way too many guns already) or loosening current gun control laws – it is stricter regulations and more safety measures for guns already out there. The United States has a gun problem. We have more guns than people.

We have more mass shootings than any other country in the world. And we’re not doing anything about it. Gun violence is a public health issue and it’s not just an American problem, it’s a global one too.

In the past 30 years, there has been an average of (almost) two mass shooting every day in America and the number of mass shootings is increasing year by year.

What needs to happen? We need to make sure that guns are harder to get and that people with mental health problems don’t have access to guns.

Apart from that, a complete ban on ALL guns & mandatory buyback system. I’m fine with that too.
