1970's Horror Films
The 70’s was a great year for horror: “The Exorcist”, “Carrie”, “The Omen”, “Phantasm”, “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” & many more. But for me (squeaking in at 1979) it’s “Alien“. I thought I was going to have a heart attack from all the tension in that movie. Loved it!
It had everything a great horror movie should. Likable characters, who slowly get destroyed by an evil creature. Creepy atmosphere, that alien ship was straight out of HR Giger. An alien bursting out of a guys chest. A creepy robot who might just kill everybody. An evil corporate lackey who might just get everybody killed. One of the most terrifying screams (by Harry Dean Stanton). A bad ass lead woman; Ripley (Sigourney Weaver). And, a pissed off cat.
So Alien, of of the best horror movies of the 70’s & all time.
Here is my top ten horror movies, FYI.
- Alien
- The Exorcist
- An American Werewolf in London
- Poltergeist (1982)
- The Thing (1982)
- The Babadook
- Get Out
- Se7en
- The Fly (1986)
- The Shining
